Getting started

How do I start?

Start a free trial on the site. You fill in your company name and pick where it is registered, and CORA sets up your chart of accounts, your sales tax rules and your filing deadlines for you. Nothing is charged for the first seven days.

Rather have us walk through it with you? Email sales@cora.financial and we will set it up together and go through your first bank statement with you.

Can I move over from another package part-way through the year?

Yes. You start CORA at a date you pick and enter your opening balances at that date — bank balances, what customers still owe you and what you still owe suppliers. We help you do it.

There is no automatic import from another package. Someone has to look at those numbers once, and it is better that it happens with care than with a button.

Do I need to know bookkeeping to use this?

No, but you do need to know your own business. CORA does the sorting and explains, in normal words, why it wants to book something a certain way. The awkward subjects — loans, dividend, money you lent your own company, depreciation — each come with an explanation of what to do and why.

For your annual accounts and your tax filings you still want an accountant. CORA makes their work shorter, and cheaper for you.

Does CORA work for a US LLC?

Yes, and it is built for the case where the owner lives outside the United States. You get the bookkeeping, a live bank connection, and the IRS filings prepared: Form 5472 with a pro forma 1120 for a single-member LLC, Form 1065 with a Schedule K-1 per member for a multi-member LLC. There is an option to fax documents to and from the IRS with your own number, because the IRS still runs on fax.

Sales tax is a state matter and stays off unless your company actually has to charge it — so nobody gets reminded about a return they do not have to file.

Banks and paperwork

Does CORA work with my bank?

Two ways in. Some banks connect directly, so transactions arrive on their own — US banks through Plaid, European banks through Ponto, and Sokin accounts directly.

Local banks in Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten and Bonaire generally do not offer that yet. For those you download the statement from your online banking and upload it. CORA reads MCB, RBC, Orco and Banco di Caribe statements, plus the standard formats MT940, CAMT.053 and CSV.

Uploading is not second-class. The statement is checked line by line against its own opening and closing balance, so you know the month is complete.

Can my bank email the statement straight into CORA?

Yes, and it saves you the whole download-and-upload routine. Every administration has its own email address. If your bank can send your statement by email, point it at that address and CORA reads it the moment it arrives — checks it against its own opening and closing balance, creates the transactions and starts matching.

The bank account needs to exist in CORA already, so the statement lands on the right one. The same address also takes purchase invoices and receipts from your suppliers.

What does the bank connection cost?

The live bank connection is a paid add-on per company per month — the current price is on the pricing page, and in the US plans it is already included. For that your transactions arrive on their own, your monthly statements land in your archive, and CORA checks that the account is in your company's name.

European banks are connected through Ponto, a licensed provider — Ponto may charge for their own service, and that is a contract between you and Ponto.

Uploading statements, or emailing them in, is free and always will be. The connection saves you the trip to your online banking; it is not the only way in.

What if CORA cannot read my statement?

It says so, instead of importing half a month and letting you find out in March. Send us the file and we add support for that format — that is how the current list was built.

How does the automatic matching work, and can I trust it?

Each transaction is compared with your open invoices and receipts on invoice number, amount, currency, date and counterparty. CORA gives every match a score and shows the reasons in plain language.

You set the line yourself: above your threshold it books automatically, below it the match waits for you. Everything that is booked automatically stays visible and can be undone. Nothing is hidden.

Can I email my purchase invoices in instead of uploading them?

That is what the email inbox is for: every administration gets its own address you can give to suppliers, or forward invoices to yourself. Attachments are read and put straight into your inbox in CORA.

You can also upload a whole stack at once, or drag in a photo of a receipt from your phone.

I bought something abroad in another currency. Does that work?

Yes, and it is done the way an accountant would want it. The purchase is valued at what actually left your bank account, not at some published daily rate you never paid. Bank charges and exchange differences end up where they belong.

The statement only arrives at the end of the month. Can I already say an invoice is paid?

Yes. On the invoice there is "Paid, statement follows": you pick the account, the date and the amount. CORA books it straight away, so the invoice is settled, no reminder goes out, and your balance shows the money that is really there.

When the statement does arrive, that same payment is on it. CORA recognises it — same account, same amount, a date close to the one you gave — and turns your line into the statement line instead of adding a second one. No double booking, and two payments of the same amount in one week still stay two payments.

Can my customer pay the invoice online?

With the payment links add-on your invoice can carry a QR code and your email a pay button, through Sentoo and your own merchant account. You tick it per invoice, so you decide each time whether it goes along.

CORA only suggests it for a customer in your own country. A pay-by-bank link on an island bank is of no use to someone in the Netherlands or Belgium, and an invoice that promises a payment method the customer cannot use is worse than one that promises nothing.

Tax and reports

Does CORA file my OB return for me?

CORA prepares it. Your sales tax position is kept up to date all month, and you get the figures and the deadline for your filing period — monthly, quarterly or yearly.

The filing itself you or your accountant still do at the tax office. We do not send anything to the Belastingdienst on your behalf.

Which reports do I get?

Profit and loss, balance sheet, trial balance, general ledger, sales tax summary and a complete audit trail of every change. All of it exports to PDF or Excel.

Can my accountant get access?

Yes, at no extra cost. They get their own login with their own rights — read-only if that is what you want. No more emailing files back and forth, and no sharing your password.

Price and billing

What does CORA cost?

Per company, per month, in US dollars — the prices are on the pricing page and they are the ones that count.

What differs between the plans is how much paperwork they include: a number of documents a month, from a small business to a restaurant or wholesaler with hundreds of supplier invoices. A holding with its operating company has a plan for the pair, US LLCs have their own plans with the IRS filings included, and every company beyond your plan is charged as an extra company at the rate of its own country.

Everything else is in that price. There is no cheaper plan that leaves out reports, and no charge per invoice or per transaction.

What if I go over the documents in my plan?

Nothing is blocked. CORA keeps reading and the extra documents are charged per document on your next invoice.

If it happens twice, a bigger plan is cheaper than the extras, and you can move up whenever you like. What counts as a document is what CORA reads for you: receipts and purchase invoices, plus sales invoices you upload as PDF. Bank statements never count, and neither does anything that arrives as data — invoices you make in CORA, webshop orders, the API and spreadsheet imports.

Who issues the bank account add-on?

Accounts are issued by our partner Plata Capital USA Inc. and are opened upon KYC approval — they need to verify your company and the people behind it before the account exists, exactly as any bank would.

The monthly amount on the pricing page is the CORA add-on. The bank's own transaction and maintenance fees are charged separately by them. Where the pricing page says the add-on is coming soon, it is not for sale yet — ask us and we will tell you where it stands.

Do I have to choose my add-ons straight away?

No. Every add-on can be switched on later from inside your administration, and it appears on your next monthly invoice. You can switch them off again the same way.

So start with just the plan if you are not sure — nothing is lost by deciding later.

How do I pay, and can I stop?

Online, by card. You get an invoice each month with a payment link, and paying takes a few seconds. We do not take payment by bank transfer.

You can cancel at any time and you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. If an invoice goes unpaid there is a two-week grace period with a clear warning before access is paused. It is never a surprise, and your data is not deleted.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — seven days, and you do not have to pay anything to start. Set up your administration, put a real bank statement in and see what comes out.

Your first invoice arrives just before the trial ends. Cancel before that date and you pay nothing at all.

Your data

Who can see my figures?

Only the people you give a login. Each administration is strictly separated from every other one, and our staff only look at your data when you ask us to help with something.

Every action is logged: who did what, and when.

Where is my data kept?

On servers in the United States, at professional hosting providers. The full list of the companies that process data on our behalf is in our Privacy Policy.

What happens to my books if I stop?

They stay yours. Export your reports and your figures before you go — and if you have already cancelled and still need something out, email us and we will get it for you.

You are legally required to keep your records for years. We do not hold them hostage.

How secure is my account?

You can switch on two-step verification, and sign in with Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello or a hardware key instead of a password. Sessions expire, and every change is recorded.
